About the Role

We are looking for an Operations Engineer to join the ESA FutureNAV programme, coordinating engineering, development, and validation activities with segment primes and subcontractors, ensuring the timely implementation and validation of FOPs and GOPs through dedicated and system campaigns. The FutureNAV programme was launched to consolidate efforts in innovative Navigation technology. Under this initiative, Celeste (formerly known as LEO-PNT) aims to demonstrate the potential of navigation satellites in low Earth orbit. OpSTAR in-orbit demonstrator will test laser-based optical links for future satellite navigation (PNT), aiming to achieve picosecond time sync & millimeters ranging between satellites and ground stations. Genesis combines four geodetic techniques in one satellite to contribute to a highly improved reference frame of Earth. You will collaborate closely with the three Mission Teams based primarily at ESTEC, while the technical lead for the service and this position is located at ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany.

 

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to defining the mission operational concept ensuring that the operational requirements are addressed from the earliest project phases.
  • Coordinate with ESA teams throughout project milestones, actively participating in reviews, generating and discussing RIDs, and following up on resulting actions.
  • Contribute to the system activities ensuring that operational aspects are managed from early phases.
  • Maintain alignment of operational activities across all mission segments in close collaboration with the system team.
  • Oversee operations and ground segment services throughout design, implementation, and delivery, ensuring consistency with the operational concept.
  • Perform any additional tasks necessary to support the delivery of Space and Ground Segment operational activities.
  • Liaise with the ESA Technical Responsible to ensure effective service provision.

 

Qualifications

  • University degree in Astronomy, Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics
  • Experience in the definition and implementation of Operational Concept and Operational Activities of Space Missions
  • Ability to manage requirements, including breakdown of requirements and tracing at different levels.
  • Experience in the monitoring of industrial services (SLAs through KPIs), including risk assessment and management.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to coordinate and interact with multiple stakeholders, including ESA and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively communicating within a larger team.

 

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with ESOC operations and Navigation tasks.
  • Experience in AIV.
  • Experience in the Space business and in the GNSS field.
  • Experience working with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Strong multi-tasking capabilities, handling multiple missions simultaneously.
